The insurance group Aviva and Caixa Galicia are celebrating the eighth anniversary of their joint company CXG Aviva which specialises in life and pensions insurance. The celebrations are taking place today in A Coruña. Aviva has also selected Galicia to start the proceedings to commemorate the fact that the insurance company has reached two million customers in Spain.

During a joint ceremony, the heads of both organisations will present a special edition of the book “Extreme challenge” by Jesús Calleja. Calleja, who recently took out an insurance policy with CXG Aviva, says that: “each person or organisation has to set its own challenges”. The mountain climber believes that “for organisations such as Aviva and Caixa Galicia, the challenge should be to reach more and more people to achieve a better future.”

Ignacio Izquierdo, managing director of Aviva Spain, points out that: “it is with great satisfaction that Aviva is celebrating the fact that we have reached two million customers in Spain with our partner in Galicia; the exceptional work which Caixa Galicia and all of the CXG Aviva team has carried out has been key in reaching this milestone.”

Alvaro García Diéguez, deputy manager for business design and development at Caixa Galicia said: “our alliance with Aviva allows Caixa Galicia to offer our customers the best life and pensions products. CXG Aviva combines the experience of Aviva, a European leader in life and pensions insurance, with the knowledge of Caixa Galicia and its close relationship with the Galician market.”

CXG Aviva (formerly Bia Galicia) is a company owned half by Aviva and half by CXG Corporación Caixa Galicia. In 2008 it achieved turnover of over €311 million, which is 14% of the total turnover of the Bancassurance sector of the Aviva Group in Spain. Since its creation in 2001, the joint company has multiplied the amount of assets which it manages by six and has multiplied its income by 11.

According to José Luís Calderón, director general of CXG Aviva: “the constant growth of CXG Aviva shows that the Galician people are particularly aware of the need to make long-term savings in order to be able to enjoy a retirement where they still retain their purchasing power". Calderón believes that “the management of the joint company in Galicia is an example of how to combine the international knowledge and experience of Aviva with the close relationship which Caixa Galicia has with the customer."

According to Calderón: “this is an agreement which goes beyond commercial issues and becomes a matter of strategy.”

CXG Aviva was the first company to introduce Individual Systematic Savings Plans in Galicia in 2007. It now covers the entire lifecycle of the customers of Caixa Galicia in terms of life and pensions insurance, from childhood insurance to other insurance policies to pension plans.

CXG Aviva, the only Galician pension plans management company, manages 94,901 customer pension plans, both individual and company plans, through 16 pension funds with different investment policies: from the most conservative to those which invest 100% of their portfolio in variable income and consolidated pension plan rights for a value of €931.98 million.
