Aviva Canada contributed $205,000 (£98,000) to the Weekend to End Breast Cancer (WTEBC) from corporate sponsorship and staff fundraising.

The WTEBC is a two-day, 60km fundraising walk, with all funds going towards supporting local cancer treatment, education and prevention programmes. An astounding $56m (£27m) was raised in total by the event.

Aviva Canada and Aviva plc were national sponsors of The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and sponsored pit stops in seven cities (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto) across the country.

The pit stops were staffed by Aviva volunteers, friends and family, and provided rest, water and much-needed food, along with massage stations to treat weary muscles.

In total, there were 164 Aviva employees at the seven events across Canada (Five crew members, 129 volunteers and 30 walkers). Igal Mayer, Aviva Canada president and CEO, cheered on walkers along with his family, at the Toronto event on 9-10 September.

Andrea Bodnar, executive vice president, BSD, and Gillian Platt, executive vice president, HR & communications, were among the staff that completed the 60km walk.
