Mykay Kamara is the new director of BSM, the UK’s largest driving school.
Mykay, 40, takes over from David Walker as part of a planned transition in the leadership of BSM. David has been managing director for the last 12 months and is staying with BSM until the end of the year as senior advisor to the business with specific responsibility for instructor recruitment and training.
The changes at the top were among several structure changes at RAC, of which BSM is a part and signified the first step of the planned handover from David Walker to Mykay Kamara.
Mykay, who was previously BSM’s director of transformation, said: “I am delighted to be heading up such a dedicated team of people, striving to improve driving standards among learner drivers and developing new ways of reaching out to new road users.”
“BSM is currently going through a substantial investment and change programme, which will strengthen its market position and reflect RAC’s commitment to both the business and the brand.”
Mykay’s new senior management team is head of finance Rob Cox, head of commercial development Andy James, interim head of instructor operations Peter Farmer and head of IT and change, Juliet Hunter.
Among a number of people who have left BSM as a result of the structure changes is George Johnson, who was head of instructor operations and had been with BSM for 30 years.
Mykay said: “The legacy George leaves will endure long into the future and he will be missed by many of his BSM colleagues. We all wish George well for the future.”

RAC incorporates BSM, RAC Auto Windscreens, RAC Direct Insurance and HPI.
- Aviva bought RAC in May 2005.
