The Aviva Savings and Pensions Institute has launched its presence on Twitter @InstitutoAviva with the focus on establishing a dialogue relating to matters of private pensions and long-term savings.

The aim of this, a pioneering step in the sector, is to make Twitter into a useful tool for consumers, providing them with information, answering questions, and resolving doubts about savings intended to maintain their quality of life during retirement. At the same time, the Twitter profile will allow Aviva to establish relationships and interact with other institutions of interest who are now also presenting their profiles on this social network.

Ignacio Izquierdo, representative of the board of Aviva Spain, adds: “Helping to educate the public with regard to finances is the foundation which will allow them to plan better with regard to their savings and help give the economy a boost. It is the responsibility of everyone involved to develop a dialogue, resolve any doubts, and clarify any financial questions, for consumers of all kinds.”

Since its creation in September 2011, the Instituto Aviva de Ahorro y Pensiones (Aviva Savings and Pensions Institute) has been developing important tools in the online environment aimed at consumers. By way of its web page at www.institutoavivadeahorroypensiones.es users can access to a large number of published documents, as well as real case studies. As well as this, in March this year the Institute launched the first application for smartphones capable of assessing what users could expect to receive in their retirement. This calculator had more than 4,000 hits in the first two weeks following its launch.

Juan José Velasco, director of the Instituto Aviva de Ahorro y Pensiones, points out that: “The only way for the public to maintain maximum involvement with regard to their retirement is for them to be provided with all the tools and information they need. At the present time, the online environment and the social media are key sources of information in financial matters, and it is our duty to provide new possibilities for communications to all our customers, as part of the commitment undertaken by the Institute.”

Notes to editors:

The Instituto Aviva de Ahorro y Pensiones is a platform for investigation and debate created by Aviva, Europe’s prime life insurance and pensions group. Its main aim is to foster the debate about the issue of sustainable savings, as well as pointing up key areas for action, helping people to understand their financial decisions, and promoting collective co-operation in order to change consumers’ attitudes with regard to long-term savings.

The basic pillar of the Institute is a Forum of Experts, made up of seven professionals and investigators from the world of economics and pensions, presided over by Guillermo de la Dehesa. The activity of the Institute focuses on three areas of action: The investigation and analysis work by the Forum of Experts, the production of periodic studies with regard to pensions and long-term savings, and the development of tools for analysis, assistance, and assessment for the public.
