Last year Aviva detected 10% more fraud than 2010
Last year Aviva detected 10% more fraud than in 2010. The UK’s biggest insurer is working with the industry to fight fraud, and welcomes today’s launch of the Insurance Fraud Register. Tom Gardiner, head of loss prevention at Aviva, attended the Association of British Insurers (ABI) Fraud Conference and said, “Although the level of detected fraud continues to rise, we know the huge majority of our policyholders are honest and expect us to fight fraud on their behalf, reducing the impact that fraudulent claims can have on insurance premiums.
"As well as maintaining a suite of internal controls, Aviva works collaboratively with other insurers, sharing data and intelligence, and Aviva identified over 10% more fraud in 2011 than the previous year. We are also supportive of market initiatives, like the Insurance Fraud Register and the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department. The message to the minority of people who are thinking of submitting a fraudulent claim is: don't - the likelihood is that you will be caught, your policy cancelled and increasingly you could face police prosecution."
