Aviva customers who choose to reduce their out-patient cover as a cost-saving option on their Healthier Solutions or Solutions private medical insurance can now benefit from increased out-patient cancer cover, following a review of the way the reduced cover option is applied.
Aviva customers who choose to reduce their out-patient cover as a cost-saving option on their Healthier Solutions or Solutions private medical insurance can now benefit from increased out-patient cancer cover, following a review of the way the reduced cover option is applied.
Further improving its cancer pledge, Aviva has enhanced the reduced out-patient cover option for out-patient treatment that is needed after a cancer diagnosis.1
With immediate effect, any new customers choosing a Healthier Solutions plan or cover on a Solutions group policy will now be able to claim in full for out-patient consultations, tests and treatments needed after a cancer diagnosis. Full cover for out-patient radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, and CT, MRI and PET scans at a recognised diagnostic centre, remain as standard benefits on the reduced out-patient option.
Existing Aviva customers will also benefit from the enhanced cancer cover. Healthier Solutions and Solutions customers who have selected one of the reduced out-patient benefit options will have the previous benefit and consultation limits removed after a cancer diagnosis. The enhancements apply to all customers who bought or renewed a Healthier Solutions or Solutions policy on or after 1 January 2012.
Dr Doug Wright, medical director, Aviva, UK Health, said: “Our cancer pledge to provide extensive cover to customers undergoing cancer treatment has already made a big difference to many people, providing peace of mind when it is needed most.
“We introduced the pledge to make it easy for our customers to understand what they are covered for in relation to cancer and this change makes it even easier; whatever level of
out-patient benefit they choose, customers diagnosed with cancer know that they have out-patient cover.
“In addition, customers have a dedicated contact within our oncology team, who provide support and advice on cancer claims and trained nurses who have expert knowledge about the latest drugs and treatments available.”
Aviva’s cancer pledge to customers launched in January 2012 and provides one of the most extensive levels of cancer cover available in the private health insurance market.

Notes to editors:
1 Customers selecting the reduced out-patient benefit option on Healthier Solutions have the choice of either a £500 or £1,000 combined limit (£1,000 for group Solutions customers) per person, per policy year, for all non-cancer related out-patient treatment covering the following: specialist consultations, diagnostic tests, specialist referred treatment by a physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath and psychiatric treatment.
Choosing the reduced out-patient benefit on Healthier Solutions also removes benefits for surgical procedures on teeth, emergency cover overseas and complications of pregnancy and childbirth. The reduced out-patient benefit option does provide full cover for CT, MRI and PET scans at recognised diagnostic centres and out-patient treatment after a diagnosis of cancer (including radiotherapy and chemotherapy.)
For existing customers on Healthier Solutions who have bought or renewed on or after 1 January 2012 and who have selected reduced out-patient cover of £500 or £,1000, there are now no monetary limits on any out-patient treatment, tests or consultations after cancer is diagnosed. If they have the reduced out-patient C2 option there is now no limit to the number of consultations we will cover after cancer is diagnosed.
For existing customers on Solutions who have bought or renewed on or after 1 January 2012 and who have selected reduced out-patient cover of £1,000, there are now no monetary limits on any out-patient treatment, tests or consultations after cancer is diagnosed.
