She retains her position as director of legal affairs and compliance for Aviva France.
Jean-Pierre Menanteau, CEO of Aviva France, says: "I am pleased to announce the extension of the responsibilities entrusted to Laurence Mitrovic. They demonstrate once again the daily commitment of the French teams to growing Aviva at European level and the key role Aviva France plays in this. Laurence will head up Aviva's legal department across Europe, in particular developing a network of European internal legal experts, whilst remaining fully involved in her operational duties in France, where she has already made a great contribution with experienced and highly talented French teams."
Laurence Mitrovic, who is 46, holds a Masters degree in law from University Paris II Assas and has passed the French bar exams (Capa). In 1988, she was admitted to the bar associations of Paris and New York. She holds an advanced diploma in Business Russian from the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) and speaks four languages (French, English, Russian and Serbo-Croat). Laurence Mitrovic specialises in international business law, a field in which she has more than 20 years' experience. She started her professional career in February 1988 as a business litigation lawyer with the Bernard Tessler Hertz.
In February 1990, she joined the legal firm Monahan & Duhot (now Latham & Watkins), where she specialised in mergers and acquisitions and international arbitration. In 1992, she went to the Paris office of the leading American law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where she was promoted to the position of 'Counsel to the Firm' in May 1997. Laurence Mitrovic moved on in 2008 to pursue her international arbitration work under the aegis of the International Chamber Of Commerce (ICC).
At the same time, she teaches on the Masters course in Arbitration and International Business at the University of Versailles - St Quentin-en-Yvelines. Laurence Mitrovic joined Aviva France in February 2010 as director of legal affairs and compliance, a position which also makes her a member of the board of Aviva France.
In 29 September 2010, Laurence Mitrovic was promoted to general counsel and legal director of Aviva Europe, reporting directly to Tim Harris, financial director of Aviva Europe. In parallel, she retains her position of director of legal affairs and compliance for Aviva France, a post which reports directly to Jean-Pierre Menanteau, Aviva France CEO.
