Following the glory days of high-end medical insurance, on 1 July 2010 Aviva-Cofco officially launched another type of top-grade medical cover - the “Whole World One Family” international medical protection plan.

This product is tailor-made for foreign business people in China or the Chinese business elite who regularly travel abroad, and extremely suitable for high net worth people whose operating radius extends overseas. From a healthcare protection aspect, “Whole World One Family” is without doubt "Business Class" for the high net worth business person.

According to reports, “Whole World One Family", this heavyweight high-end medical insurance has made four significant breakthroughs. Primarily, a high insured sum, with the highest achieved insured amount at RMB 12,000,000, a peak level of industry-wide published high-end medical insurance. Secondly, the wide area of protection; medical protection can be enjoyed in any part of the world, expatriate clients can feel warm in the sense that they are no longer out of reach.

“Whole World One Family” has also made a breakthrough in the choice of medical providers; whether at home or abroad, clients have an even greater, even wider freedom of choice of medical institution. From a service aspect, “Whole World One Family” provides a 24-hour bilingual Chinese-English medical consultation hotline, to assist with handling doctor appointments and, by providing a second opinion service, creating a more specialised, more intimate, and all-weather private doctor style high-end service, to fully satisfy client needs.

Looking at the protection content, "Whole World One Family" covers five main areas: hospitalisation and related services, specific organ transplant costs, outpatient costs, examinations and medical treatment support. This includes cancer treatment, kidney dialysis treatment, the prescription of medical aids, a whole array of medical liability cover and covers parents accompanying hospitalised minors, no hospitalisation settlement allowance, emergency medical care transfer etc.

The policy has a more human oriented design, with a more comprehensive, all encompassing liability. Regarding payment terms, “Whole World One Family” strives to simplify administration, to save time and to reduce worry for the client; in designated medical establishments, clients undergoing treatment can enjoy direct fee payments with no need for advance payments to be made.

An Aviva-Cofco spokesperson stated that: "the 'Whole World One Family' international medical protection plan is new and unique, comprehensive protection, a human oriented liability which better embodies the philosophy of Aviva-Cofco care.”

The “Whole World One Family” one-stop service not only takes absolute care of client health, but is a manifestation of client respect. The 24-hour private doctor service, it could be said, heralds a new dawn for high net worth business people undergoing medical treatment.

Case one – High-end domestic
Ms Hu, a foreign enterprise executive, is constantly travelling on business all year round, so she is rarely able to look after her own health. In order to better protect her health, Ms Hu took out the Aviva-Cofco Whole World One Family international medical protection policy (deluxe version).

On one occasion, whilst on business in New York, Ms Hu suddenly fell ill with abdominal pains and a rising temperature. Owing to the unfamiliar location, she did not know where to seek medical advice, so she decided to call the hotline service we provided for the US regional healthcare network service provider (HAA).

Of the more than 700,000 healthcare providers, HAA chose the closest and most appropriate medical facility. Ms Hu immediately went to the hospital for a preliminary check up, where she was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. Because of the emergency situation, Ms Hu received immediate treatment from the hospital, eliminating possible serious consequences, and Medilink-Global, after receiving notification from HAA of Ms Hu's emergency medical treatment, provided written verification at the first opportunity.

Having undergone treatment at the hospital, Ms Hu quickly recovered from her condition. On this occasion, the emergency treatment costs and hospitalisation costs (including surgery costs of US$ 20,300), for Ms Hu's treatment totalled US$ 35,000.

Under the favourable terms of the Whole World One Family policy, all of the clinical costs fell within the scope of the liability protection; Aviva-Cofco covered the entire amount, and through Medilink-Global paid the hospital directly. The client left the hospital after treatment without incurring any fees, the whole process being negotiated between Medilink Global, HAA and the hospital. The client did not have the slightest fear about receiving care whilst living abroad.

Case two – EU, US assignment
Mr Aaron Smith, an American overseas recruited company executive, was assigned to the China office. He has a three year old daughter who also lives with him in China. He purchased, for himself and his daughter, the Aviva-Cofco Whole World One Family medical treatment plan (classic version).

At the beginning of the year, the weather was warming up and, during the change of seasons his daughter caught a cold from children around her as well as a persistent fever; Mr Smith was extremely anxious as his mother tongue is not Chinese and, being unfamiliar with Chinese hospital clinics, felt very awkward. Thinking about the insurance he had purchased, he called our hotline hoping to gain assistance. The Medilink-Global staff, after speaking to him in English, considered his actual predicament: his English language requirement, and the fact he is accustomed to Western clinical practices.

They therefore arranged an appointment for him at a foreign private medical clinic and also explained the client’s situation to the hospital.

After taking his daughter to see the doctor, Mr Smith was extremely happy, everything went well: his daughter was very excited, and the hospital staff actively communicated with them, making them feel less lonely.

On this occasion, the treatment fees incurred by Mr Smith and his daughter amounted to RMB 3000. According to the favourable Whole World One Family policy conditions, the entire RMB 3000 was covered by Aviva-Cofco, and furthermore was paid directly to the hospital by Medilink-Global. Having experienced our pleasant and satisfying healthcare protection and service arrangements, Mr Smith was finally free from his anxious state of mind.
