Sodra transferred 15.9 million litas to the pension funds account of life insurance and pension company Aviva Lithuania for the second quarter of the year 2009. Because of the laws passed this year, the instalments from Sodra to private pension funds decreased from 5.5% to 3%, therefore the company got 17.3 million litas or 51.1% less compared to the second quarter of last year, when these instalments were 33.2 million litas in total.
"We are sorry that because of hastily passed laws, this year pension fund clients cannot use the opportunity to invest more of their pension fund resources, because this period is so beneficial for investing – all of the pension funds currently operating in the country have received positive returns since the beginning of the year," said Asta Ungulaitiene, director general of Aviva Lithuania.
From the beginning of the year to 9 September, the Aviva Lithuania pension funds Europensija, Europensija plius and Europensija ekstra have received returns of +9.5%, +10.4 and +14.6, respectively. The social security contributions received from Sodra for the second quarter of 2009 have already been distributed to the clients' personal pension fund accounts: 10.4 million litas from the newly received money have been transferred to the Europensija plius pension fund, 2.9 million litas to Europensija and 2.6 million litas to Europensija ekstra. Together with the newly received instalments, the Aviva Lithuania assets total 406 million litas, 14 million litas more than all instalments made to the company’s pension funds by Sodra since 2003.
