Life insurer Aviva životní pojišťovna has revamped one of its flagship products – Talisman, the children’s life insurance plan. Aviva has significantly reduced the exclusions which used to apply to accidents and injuries occurring during races, competitions and other sporting events.

Previously there was no entitlement to insurance payout if the accident or injury occurred when the insured was participating in sporting events, apart from just a few narrowly defined sports. With the revamped Talisman, however, this exclusion only applies for those taking part in professional sport and coverage is available for recreational sportsmen and women. Through this Aviva is attempting to appeal for example to amateur sports clubs, which previously only had limited possibilities available for insuring children against accidents.

Another new feature of the Talisman children’s insurance plan, adapting the product to the current economic situation and demand on the insurance market, is the option to reduce the investment portion of the premium and raise the emphasis on risk coverage when taking out more than one insurance policy at the same time.

Our aim, through going down this path, is to support amateur sportsmen and women,” explains Milan Starý, Aviva’s marketing director. “If we are putting Talisman forward as a comprehensive insurance plan for children, then it has to include coverage of accidents and injuries during amateur sport. I think that sports clubs will welcome this innovation too, because it will provide them with another possibility for insuring their members against accident and injury.”

Aviva launched Talisman children’s life insurance in 2002. Talisman is a unique product in this international insurer’s portfolio and is only available on the Czech market. In addition to comprehensive accident and injury coverage for children, Talisman also allows customers to take advantage of cut-price supplementary insurance packages, which can mean annual premium savings for the customer of up to CZK 1,200 or a CZK 10,000 bonus for passing the Maturita (the Czech school-leaving exam). Talisman also won a number of awards in the prestigious Golden Crown Awards for financial products – it received the Bronze Crown from the panel of experts and in the public vote.
