Aviva Australia today released its Corporate Responsibility (CR) reporting for 2008.

Aviva’s chief executive officer, Allan Griffiths said: "Our CR report highlights our progress in making Aviva an environmentally sustainable company taking care of the community in which we operate. The CR strategy is focused on managing the impact that Aviva has on our society and environment.

“Running our CR program in line with our core business has helped us to achieve some outstanding results and has provided new benchmarks in our CR activities as we look toward the future."

The Aviva CR report highlights include:

  • Camp Quality, which was announced as Aviva’s flagship charity in 2008, for which we raised more than A$94,000 to 31 December 2008, well on our way to our objective of A$150,000 for 2008/2009.
  • The launch of our free insurance for kids, offering parents with critical illness cover of A$100,000 or more financial peace of mind in the event that a dependant child is diagnosed with a critical illness or passes away.
  • Encouraging Aviva employees to embrace sustainable environmental practices at home with the launch of a water/energy efficiency rebate, matching the federal government or local state government’s water efficiency and renewable energy rebates up to an amount of A$300.
  • Aviva’s reduction in carbon emissions in 2008 by more than 15%. In 2006, Aviva became the first global insurer to become carbon neutral for its worldwide operation.
