The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia yesterday released their decision to keep costs low for auto insurance customers. The court ruled to uphold the cap on minor injuries resulting from auto accidents at C$2,500, following a constitutional challenge to Nova Scotia Auto Legislation.

Aviva Canada, one of the country's leading Property and Casualty insurance groups, played a key role in defending the legislation, which protects consumers from soaring auto insurance premiums.

"The court's decision is great news for auto insurance customers in Nova Scotia and across Canada, and sends a clear message that minor injury capping is a fair and sensible way to manage the affordability of auto insurance in the province," remarked Robin Spencer, president and CEO of Aviva Canada.

"It's encouraging that Nova Scotians will continue to benefit from premium reductions achieved as a result of legislation passed five years ago," added Spencer.

Today's decision is an important step in maintaining an affordable and sustainable provincial auto insurance system. It ensures that customers who are injured receive appropriate levels of compensation aligned to an auto insurance product priced at reasonable levels.
