France: Disabled employment week - Aviva takes part in 'One day, one profession in action' campaign

As part of its continued commitment to the cause and in line with the Diversity Charter it signed in October 2007, Aviva is taking part in the "Un jour, un métier en action®" (One Day, One Profession in Action") campaign from 17 to 21 November.

As part of its continued commitment to the cause and in line with the Diversity Charter it signed in October 2007, Aviva is taking part in the "Un jour, un métier en action®" (One Day, One Profession in Action") campaign from 17 to 21 November. This campaign is organised jointly by AGEFIPH (the association which manages the fund promoting the employment of people with disabilities) and ADAPT (the association promoting the social and professional inclusion of people living with disabilities) and aims to promote the integration of people with disabilities in business. To this end, Aviva has offered AGEFIPH 13 positions for volunteers to take part in this campaign.

This one-day event will allow disabled jobseekers to spend a day in the company, shadowing an Aviva employee and thus familiarising themselves with a company, a sector of activity or a new profession. It will also provide the opportunity to see how their professional plans measure up to the reality of a business and the job itself.

A two-way benefit
The benefits of this campaign will be shared by the company taking part and the jobseeker with a disability alike:

The company benefits from:

  • The opportunity to meet, in a real situation, disabled jobseekers whose profiles correspond to their needs;
  • Help in making their staff aware of issues related to non-discrimination and the inclusion of disabled workers.
  • Getting to know the people actively involved in integration at a local level, who may at any time of the year be able to put the company in touch with people whose profiles may be of interest to it.

The disabled worker gets:

  • To know a job, a sector of activity and a business.
  • The opportunity to make professional contacts, which are essential when seeking employment.

Aviva France's long-term commitment
The company has committed to an active long-term policy of sustainable development. Aviva France's commitment to disabled workers can be seen through activities such as:

  • The recent construction of its headquarters at Bois-Colombes, which are fully accessible to people with reduced mobility.
  • Awareness-raising to ensure that Aviva employees living with a disability are able to develop in a positive environment (appropriate technical equipment and working environment).
  • A human resources department which is fully aware of the issue of discrimination, with a dedicated recruitment manager with responsibility for disability issues.
