France: Aviva's new client loyalty scheme

For its clients holding Vectura Car insurance policies, Aviva Assurances has created a new "cadeau de franchise" or excess gift, which will gradually scale down their damage excess. In practice, this means that a reduction rate will apply to the total excess payable in the event of a claim.

For its clients holding Vectura Car insurance policies, Aviva Assurances has created a new "cadeau de franchise" or excess gift, which will gradually scale down their damage excess. In practice, this means that a reduction rate will apply to the total excess payable in the event of a claim. This rate will rise for every year with no claim. Clients will be kept informed of the level of reduction of their excess in a note accompanying their renewal letter.

Up to 60% reduction in excess
The "cadeau de franchise" is a loyalty scheme available to Aviva general agents. It will apply to the holders of insurance policies which include an excess payable on damage cover (and therefore not available for third-party insurance options).

It may be granted on new business, change of vehicle amendments within three months following the effective date of the change and at any time to portfolio contracts, as long as the client also has another contract (life insurance product, or principal damage insurance products).

In all cases, it is available only if no claim has been made in the last 12 months. The reduction will apply to the first claim made (fire, storm, theft or damage to the vehicle).

The excess amount will drop by 20% after 12 claim-free months, by 40% after 24 months and by 60% after 36 months. In the event of a claim during these periods, there are two possible scenarios:

  • If the policyholder has already used their reduction entitlement, the general agent may give them another "cadeau de franchise" after one year without claim.
  • If the claim does not carry an excess payment (eg a cracked windscreen), the reduction rate will remain identical for the following period.
