ING Insurance & Risk Consultancy and Delta Lloyd are making it possible to insure Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs). In its six Minutes Campaign, the Nederlandse Hartstichting (Dutch Heart Foundation) demonstrates the importance of immediate resuscitation and the use of an AED in the case of cardiac arrest. To achieve this it is important for AEDs to be available within six minutes. As this equipment is expensive, an insurance solution has been sought for theft or damage.

Insurance at cost price
ING Insurance & Risk Consultancy and Delta Lloyd support the goals of the Nederlandse Hartstichting. Therefore, they are making AED insurance available at cost price. The unique feature of this insurance is that cover can also be provided in public places and outdoors.

Importance of insurance
The Hartstichting encourages Dutch people to set up six Minute Zones. These are areas where in the case of cardiac arrest bystanders can call 112, resuscitate the person and use the AED within six minutes. Potential initiators of six Minute Zones said that there was a barrier to acquiring an AED. They could not insure the AED against damage or theft. The Hartstichting hopes that the launch of the policy has removed this barrier.

Each week 300 Dutch people suffer a cardiac arrest outside hospital. Young, old, male, female: it can happen to anyone. If bystanders call 112, resuscitate the person and use the AED within six minutes following a cardiac arrest, the chance of the victim surviving rises sharply.

Defibrillators also available in all branches of Delta Lloyd Group and ING Group
Since the beginning of this year, AEDs have been available in all branches of Delta Lloyd Group and ING Group and staff are trained in resuscitation and using an AED.
