This week Aviva is launching its new additional health insurance range. An updated basic product accompanied by optional covers (packs) for "à la carte" health cover that can be adapted to the requirements of the individual customer. Aviva also offers to reimburse actual hospital expenses from the launch of the main range (plan two): the highlight of the new range.
With this launch, Aviva is strengthening its competitive position in the health insurance segment in France.
The linking of the policies (basic policy + packs - see appendix to this release) represents an advantage for various target groups.
- For young people: a highly competitive entry price for the range with the benefit of reimbursement of actual hospital expenses.
- For families: basic plans suitable for both parents and children, at a competitive rate and three optional packs increasing the cover of eyecare, dental care and hospital assistance.
- For older people: a special range with two new plans and two optional packs increasing the cover of eyecare, dental and hearing care and certain treatments which are not reimbursed.
The packs are the great innovation of the new product. The new range is based on the same principle as Aviva home and car insurance: basic plans to which covers (packs) can be added as required by customers for a more competitive product.
Another advantage is that the packs have a fixed price per beneficiary which varies from range to range (Hospital, main range and senior).
An updated basic cover with optional additional covers (packs).
The main range aimed at families
The main range has two major advantages:
- More attractive rates for the entry and mid-range plans
- Tailor-made policies for all members of the family with several possible extensions of cover in the form of packs:
- Optical/Dental packs level 1 (€3/month/adult and €1/month/child) and level 2 (€6/month/adult and €2/month/child) allowing for larger reimbursements for eyecare, dentures and orthodontics (whether or not they are reimbursed under the compulsory plan). They also provide for the cover of treatment not reimbursed under the compulsory plan (vaccines, homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropraxy and dietary analysis)
- The Hospital Assistance pack (€2/month/adult beneficiary) which covers the payment of €15 per day for ancillary hospital expenses (newspapers and magazines telephone, television, etc) from the fourth day in hospital.
It is also possible to take out this cover up to the age of 70 without a medical questionnaire (except plan number seven) and there is no waiting period for the covers.
The "Hospital" plan for young people looking for inexpensive cover
The "Hospital" plan is particularly suited to the needs of single beneficiaries aged between 18 and 40 who are looking for insurance that is inexpensive but still effective when it comes to the crunch. It covers the reimbursement of hospital expenses over and above the benefits paid by the compulsory health insurance plan. The actual cost is reimbursed (up to €50 for a private room).
With a similar arrangement for linking to the main offer, policyholders over the age of 24 can add the following packs to the "Hospital" plan:
The Hospital Assistance pack (€2/month) which pays out €15 per day for ancillary hospital expenses (newspapers and magazines, telephone, television, etc) from the fourth day in hospital
- The Optical/Dental pack (€6/month) covering reimbursement for eyecare, dentures and orthodontics (whether or not they are reimbursed under the compulsory plan). It also covers treatment not reimbursed under the compulsory plan (vaccines, homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropraxy and dietary analysis)
- The Provident pack (€4/month) including the Hospital Assistance cover described above and the Accidental Permanent Disablement cover which provides for the payment of a lump sum of €10,000 in the case of an immobilising accident.
The new range with special covers for older people
People aged between 60 and 80 can take out two new plans specially designed for them. In the common basis of the covers, Aviva offers optical and dental bonuses, flat-rate reimbursements for hearing aids and wigs and reimbursement for drugs prescribed by a doctor but not covered by the compulsory plan. Hospital fees are reimbursed at 100% or 150% depending on the plan, which offers a good level of protection that is good value for money. The flat rate per day for hospital expenses is still reimbursed at actual cost.
It is possible to add the Optical/Dental/Hearing packs, which offer reimbursement of costs in addition to the treatment described above and for treatment which is not reimbursed (vaccines, homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropraxy and dietary analysis, podology/pedicure), to these plans. These packs are available for €4 per month for number one and €8 per month for number two.
The advantages of the plans for older people:
- Cover of hospital expenses with no waiting period or medical questionnaire
- Flat-rate reimbursement for bed for companion
- Reimbursement for drugs not reimbursed by social security (eg: compression stockings, treatments for varicose veins, etc)
- Flat-rate reimbursement for hearing aids and wigs
Aviva is repositioning itself in a changing market
Health accounted for 22% of the turnover of Aviva Assurances' "general insurance" division at the end of 2007. The company manages 237,000 additional health insurance policies.
For the sector as a whole, the range of additional health insurance policies on offer is changing very quickly, with:
- Fewer products of varying degrees of innovation (new covers, products for specific target groups, etc)
- Regularly updated ranges
- And more competitive additional covers from mutuals.
Launch supported by a national communication campaign and promotions applying on taking out the insurance
The communication campaign
A national communication campaign is planned to support the commercial launch of Aviva's new additional health insurance range. This campaign will include:
