RAC Auto Windscreens has been appointed as one of two suppliers of automotive glazing in a three-year agreement led by the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), in conjunction with the Office of Government Commerce (OGC).

The deal will see RAC Auto Windscreens supplying windscreens and other automotive glazing for the full range of public sector vehicles - ranging from pool cars, to private user scheme cars, to larger vehicles such as ambulances and vans. The service will be provided using RAC Auto Windscreen's extensive network of 142 fitting centres, over 900 mobile units and 1,200 specialist technicians.

Colin Gilks, partnership manager for RAC Auto Windscreens, said: "The appointment demonstrates that RAC Auto Windscreens is fast becoming a preferred supplier in the provision of windscreen replacement and repairs. We look forward to continuing our strengthened relationship with the police service and supporting the wider public sector with autoglazing services."

Available to all public sector organisations across the UK - which collectively operate a fleet of around 300,000 vehicles - the deal represents the first UK Government agreement for the provision of windscreen repair and replacement services.

It was awarded by NPIA following a 12-month tendering period and forms part of NPIA's suite of activities to support national police authorities in the delivery of services. Throughout the process, the OGC worked closely with NPIA to ensure a best value solution for the whole public sector.

Clemmie Sheppard, category manager in the OGC Fleet Team, explains: "Collaborative deals like this are key to the government's strategy for delivering best value for money for the taxpayer. This deal complements other recent deals for vehicle purchase and tyres to provide a range of fleet solutions that the whole UK public sector can enjoy."

Glynn Hewitt, lead fleet buyer at the NPIA, said: "This government deal builds on and utilises the expertise which the police service have developed in the fleet arena over many years. The NPIA look forward to working with RAC Auto Windscreens and the OGC in ensuring that a quality service is delivered to the public sector."
