Australia: Navigator adds new funds

Navigator today announced the addition of seven new funds to its fund list available through its Personal Investment Plan and Personal Retirement Plan services.

Navigator today announced the addition of seven new funds to its fund list available through its Personal Investment Plan and Personal Retirement Plan services. The funds are:

  • Basis Aust-Rim Opportunity Fund*
  • Basis Yield Fund*
  • INVESCO Wholesale Australian Share Fund
  • IOOF/Perennial Global Property Trust
  • Macquarie Global Private Equity Securities Fund
  • Schroder Fixed Income Fund
  • Walter Scott Global Equity Fund

*Available only via the Personal Investment Plan

The funds were made available for investment from 1 July 2006.

Navigator's research manager Stuart Fechner said: "There is no single investment theme across the funds that have been added. The funds represent a broad range of managers, sectors and different investment strategies.

"It is important that we continue to meet the varying investment interests and needs of both advisers and clients and to ensure that we offer a broad and well-rounded range of quality investment managers and funds."

The process of adding new funds incorporates a manager and fund due diligence questionnaire, but also includes feedback from financial advisers.

"We've experienced a varied range of interest in different funds in recent months, especially in regards to funds with quite specific investment strategies," said Fechner. "The funds added are reflective of this, incorporating exposure specifically to assets such as private equity, fixed income and yield focus as well as emerging and developing sectors such as global property.

"Navigator has offered global property funds for close to 12 months, yet we have seen sustained interest in this asset class as well as an increasing range of funds being made available in this sector," Fechner added.

The majority of investments made via the Navigator Personal Investment Plan and the Navigator Personal Retirement Plan are into the more traditional asset classes including Australian shares, international shares and Australian property.

"In the year to the end of March 2006 we had just over 50% of gross investments made into the three primary growth asset classes of Australian shares, Australian listed property and global shares. This breakdown was almost unchanged as compared to the 12-month period, being calendar year 2005," said Fechner.

"It is important, however, that we provide a range of choice to more specific or niche investment types. This provides flexibility for advisers and their clients in having the ability to tailor a portfolio to specific client needs and objectives," he added.

Navigator investment options include more than 190 managed funds and a range of ASX-listed shares.
