The average amount of life insurance premium per capita in Romania is only US$9.75 per year. The Polish population spends seven times this amount and Hungary spent almost 12 times what Romanian’s do[1].
“Our life insurance industry has the responsibility to reverse this trend by informing Romanians about the need to transfer the financial risks associated with accidents, sickness, or loss of life from their families to insurance companies.” said Carl Boehr, president and CEO of Aviva Asigurari de Viata.
“Everyday more families lose their most valuable asset – their ability to earn an income. Many of these families will have no insurance. We have seen the success that the UK, Canadian and American insurance industries overseas have had in educating people to protect their incomes and we are proud to be able to support the importing of some of the world best insurance experts into Romania.”
On 27 March more than 500 industry professionals participated for an entire day to motivating and entertaining ways to communicate the importance of life insurance at the MDRT event co-sponsored by Aviva. The event took place at the Grand Ballroom at the Marriott Hotel.
The MDRT is an association of the top 1% of the world’s financial professionals. Key note speakers included Alphonso B Franco, from Victoria, Canada, author of Making Critical Illness Insurance Affordable. Michelle Hoesly, accomplished pensions expert and co-founder of the "Make-a-Wish" charitable foundation in Norfolk, USA. And Tony Gordon, an MDRT past president and 28-year MDRT member from Bristol, England who across his 35 year career has spoken in over 40 countries and has attended every major insurance event in the world. Tony is also the author of the widely translated, best seller: It Can Only Get Better.
“The MDRT speakers shared stories of success in helping people from all over the world achieve their ambitions. They shared personal experiences and hard earned lessons about life insurance and its important role in creating financial security for individuals and businesses. They shared knowledge of how under-insurance, or no insurance, can cause financial hardship for people that need not suffer a poor financial future and they motivated many local insurance company attendees by giving simple and actionable advice on how they could make insurance available to more Romanians.” stated Andi McLennan, director market development of Aviva Asigurari de Viata.
