Navigator has won a leading communication award for its Super Intelligence magazine, which was launched in April 2005.
The award was presented in Sydney by Channel 7's David Koch on behalf of superannuation industry body ASFA. The ASFA 2005 Communication Awards assess the research, strategy and creativity of communication campaigns together with an assessment of proven outcomes.
Navigator received a merit award in the Investor Communication category - the only award given in this category in 2005 and was one of only two retail funds to be granted an award for member communication in the past four years.
Aviva chief executive officer Allan Griffiths said he was delighted Navigator's marketing team had received such formal recognition from ASFA - Australia's peak superannuation industry body.
The development of Super Intelligence combines the outcome of research undertaken by Aviva which surveyed over 3000 people on their intention to switch superannuation funds in the new `choice of fund era`. This research showed us that while 31% of those surveyed cited an intention to switch super funds from 1 July, the intention of those aged 20-29 to switch super funds was even greater.
With over 80% of Navigator's Corporate Super members under 45 years of age, Navigator developed Super Intelligence in response to the growing need to communicate with younger members in a way that is both engaging and informative.
Super Intelligence was launched in April as part of Navigator's member education program. It presents information that is particularly relevant to younger investors such as making the most of the government's co-contributions scheme, the importance of finding and consolidating forgotten superannuation accounts and the importance of making regular small personal contributions to your super.
The Navigator entry also caught the eye of ASFA CEO Phillippa Smith who remarked on the fresh approach taken by Navigator's Selecting Super entry.
"Navigator were a deserving winner of a Merit Award, attracting the judges' attention from a design and communications perspective, with a fresh, strongly benefits-focussed and inviting entry, " said Philippa.
The award was accepted in Sydney this week by Navigator's Megan Andersen on behalf of the project team which included Andi McLennan and Rita Ferraro.
Navigator's Super Intelligence magazine was distributed as part of the member education program. Navigator is also planning to promote the magazine with its Annual Report communication, which will be launched at the beginning of September.
