Following several months of a pilot scheme, Commercial Union Poland General Insurance Company has launched a package of general insurance for small and medium-sized enterprises under the trading name Business Partner.

The package is designed for legal or natural persons carrying out business activities. The offer was primarily put together to suit businesses whose activities are office-based (eg stockbrokers, estate agents, lawyers), wholesale and retail sales and production of certain goods (eg clothing, bakery products, ceramic tiles), as well as those operating in the IT and photographic services sector.

A client may apply for insurance of property with a value not exceeding 10 million zlotys per location and 20 million zlotys for all locations of its operations. The basic package covers property insurance against fire and other perils and burglary and robbery, as well as insurance cover for civil liability in tort. The scope of the cover may be extended to incorporate a number of other insurances, including insurance of property against vandalism, insurance of cash during transportation, insurance of stock during transportation, insurance of electronic equipment against all risks of loss or damage, and insurance of windows and glass components against breakage.

CU General offers a system of discounts for clients buying Business Partner: for simultaneous insurance against fire and theft, for buying insurance against at least five risks, and for making use of other services provided by the CU Poland Group (with the exception of CU Pension Fund due to legal restrictions).

"Our offer has benefited from the conclusions we have drawn from the several months of pilot operation. We have put together a wide range of insurances which are the ones most frequently sought by businesses operating on the small to medium scale," said Anna Katarzyna Wojciechowska, general manager of CU Poland General Insurance Company.

"Clients may put together their own package of different risks, and they will receive a single policy and pay a single premium. I am convinced that, just as with our commercial and personal lines customers, one of our main competitive advantages will be the high quality of service provided to customers and intermediaries including the claims handling process," she added.

CU General offers residential, accident and travel insurance for individual customers, as well as commercial lines insurance (including fire, loss of earnings, technical insurance, goods in transit and civil liability insurance.). In the first half of 2004, CU General collected 45.5 million zlotys in gross premiums, with a net profit of 2.1 million zlotys.
