The Navigator business will continue to use the well-recognised Navigator brand.
Announcing the change for Australia, chief executive officer Allan Griffiths said the brand change was part of the group’s planned journey towards being recognised as a world-class financial services provider.
“We are excited about the change to Aviva, as it will allow us to align our brand with the global Aviva group and to enjoy the benefits of being part of a world-class financial services provider,” Mr Griffiths said.
“By aligning more closely with the global Aviva group, we share in the strengths of the Aviva brand name – a leading name in over 30 countries across the globe, the world’s seventh largest insurer and number 57 on the Fortune Global 500 list,” he said.
“As a result of adopting the global brand, we will be able to better drive customer brand recognition and leverage off brand and marketing initiatives from the UK and elsewhere,” Mr Griffiths said.
The Aviva brand was first launched in the UK in July 2002 as the new name and brand for the former CGNU plc, the parent of Norwich Union Australia and Navigator.
“We anticipate that it won’t be long before the Aviva name is as well known in Australia as it is in 30 other countries around the world,” he said.
The change to Aviva is a brand name change only – the legal entity name of Norwich Union Life Australia Limited will remain unchanged.
The Aviva Group has more than 300 years history in the UK and, in Australia, Norwich Union has been trading for 100 years. Aviva Australia is headquartered in Melbourne and employs almost 700 Australians.
