The management of Commercial Union, životní pojišťovna, as [CU Life Insurance] decided to give targeted assistance to areas affected by the widespread August floods.
Not wishing to send financial aid to any of the anonymous flood accounts, where it is largely impossible to monitor the actual handover of financial aid, the company wanted its own employees and insurance advisers to be involved in deciding where financial aid was to be directed.
So at the beginning of September this year the management of Commercial Union, životní pojišťovna, as launched a voluntary appeal among its employees and insurance adviser associates, to which Commercial Union, životní pojišťovna, as itself contributed CZK 324,696. A further CZK 100,000 was raised among the employees and insurance advisers. The employees and insurance advisers then decided themselves what specific projects to support.
CZK 300,000 of the funds raised went to the reconstruction of a kindergarten at České Budějovicé at No 3 Neplachova Street. On 25 October 2002 Mr Austin Kimm, Chairman of Commercial Union, životní pojišťovny, as, handed over a symbolic cheque to Mrs Alešová, the kindergarten’s head teacher.
The remaining CZK 124,696 went to the reconstruction of the local health centre at Liběchov in the district of Mělník. Representatives of Commercial Union, životní pojišťovny, as and Commercial Union Penzijní Fond, as [CU Pension Fund] handed over a symbolic cheque to local mayor Mr Ulman on 24 October 2002.
