Austin Kimm was elected Chairman of the Board after Neville Thrower’s departure. Once the necessary regulatory formalities are received Mr Kimm will be also appointed the General Manager of the company.

After signing a long term contract, Mr Kimm summed up his initial impressions of the company: “Although our market position is not as high as I would like, our endeavour is to make Commercial Union, životní pojiš'ovna, as a real force within the Czech Republic. Backed by Britain’s largest insurance company and applying British professionalism to everything we do with a few changes, I believe we can and will outperform our competitors in the foreseeable future.”
Austin Kimm, a British citizen, graduated in law in 1987 and since then he has been in the Aviva company for 15 years. He has a wide range of practical experience backed up by the highest level of insurance qualification being a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute in the UK. He spent the past two years working in Australia as a general manager for Strategy and Alliances, before which he worked in London International Division (before the merger between Norwich Union and CGU) with the responsibility for strategy and planning of the developing markets outside Europe.
Commercial Union, životní pojiš'ovna, as started operations in the Czech Republic in 1997 and it provides unit-linked life insurance. In the first half-year of 2002 the premium written reached CZK 162,2M, which is an increase of 32% compared to the same period in 2001.
