Norwich Union – the UK’s largest insurer - has become the first life provider to launch a free virtual learning centre for IFAs after its innovative e-learning system was given the thumbs up after an extensive pilot period.

Fully accessible via www.norwich-union.co.uk/ifa, IFAs are now able to register online to enter the virtual learning centre. On entry, IFAs will gain access to a wealth of interactive training material. As well as support for G10 / 20 and 60 there are also courses on ‘Flexible Retirement Solutions’ and ‘Business Financial Solutions’. The virtual learning centre houses its own library, classroom, games room, communications room and even an examination hall.

The virtual learning centre has been developed by Knowledge=Power, a technology company, using a system known as Alto. Knowledge=Power also worked closely with Norwich Union to develop its predecessor to the virtual learning centre, an e-learning CD Rom that was supplied to IFAs nationwide.

Steve Minns, IFA added value support manager, Norwich Union, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the virtual learning centre. Its introduction is an exciting development that represents a significant investment and commitment on the part of Norwich Union to the IFA market and to our added value offering. The site itself has been designed to provide IFAs with an attractive, fun and flexible way of learning, enabling them to use it at their own pace and to suit their own style of learning.

“The site was also piloted amongst a selection of IFAs and the feedback so far has been very encouraging – the availability of an interactive, easy to use and enjoyable e- learning site has been long awaited. With this in mind, we have made a long-term commitment to the virtual learning centre and it will continue to be developed, with new courses and subject areas added to meet IFAs growing learning requirements.”

Marcus Pailing, marketing manager at Knowledge=Power, said: “Norwich Union’s use of technology to deliver this type of training will be extremely beneficial to IFAs, particularly with the ever increasing regulation in the industry where training is a major element of compliance. One of the key benefits of the Alto platform is that it provides an engaging and fun environment. IFAs taking the courses will find them stimulating and, ultimately, memorable. The courses can also be accessed any time, any place, which is a major plus point for any busy professional.”
