Final call in search for nation’s best crime fighters

BRITAIN’S community crime fighters have just two more weeks to enter the Norwich Union Neighbourhood Watch Awards.

BRITAIN'S community crime fighters have just two more weeks to enter the Norwich Union Neighbourhood Watch Awards.

The awards, which close on 27 July, recognise outstanding contributions to crime prevention and community safety made by Neighbourhood Watch schemes and their members.

Prize money totaling Ł8,000 is up for grabs across eight different award categories, including Co-ordinator of the Year, Community Service award and the Home Secretary's Award for Young People.

John Howell, director general of Neighbourhood Watch said: "The Norwich Union Neighbourhood Watch Awards demonstrates how Neighbourhood Watch is raising its game and at the same time making a safer community. As before the outstanding quality of the entries means the judges are going to have a very hard time choosing the category winners."

Ben Welsh, director of communications and marketing of Norwich Union Insurance said: "Neighbourhood Watch schemes help build a safer community for everyone. The awards provide an opportunity for the 10 million members to shout about their successes over the past 12 months and celebrate the role Neighourhood Watch plays in both crime prevention and community safety."

Entries are now being called for in the following Norwich Union Neighbourhood Watch Award categories, with a Ł1,000 cash prize for each:

  • Co-ordinator of the Year
  • Urban Award
  • Rural Award
  • Community Service Award
  • Partnership Award
  • Police Award
  • Home Secretary's Award for Young People
  • Scottish Young Persons' Award

Certificates of commendation will be given to the best entries from every police force area in the UK. In addition, a national award will be given to the overall winner from among the eight category winners and will be announced at a presentation ceremony to be held later in the year.
