Aviva Gestión fund management division has appointed Pablo Cano as Equity manager for the company and as such he will be the person with overall responsibility for the Aviva Espabolsa FI, Aviva Espabolsa 2 FI, Aviva Eurobolsa FI and Aviva Eurobolsa 2 FI funds.

Mr Cano, who gained his MBA from IESE business school in Barcelona, has six years’ experience as part of the Equity team at Aviva Gestión. Before joining Aviva he managed equity funds at various financial institutions both in Spain and abroad.

José Caturla, Corporate Investment Manager for Aviva España and managing director at Aviva Gestión offered his praise for the “excellent work and added value that Pablo has brought to the Equity team during these six years. I have no doubts that he is the ideal person to head the division. Pablo has forged his own management style within Aviva, which has produced more than satisfactory results and he will continue in this vein in taking the guiding fund management.”

Pablo Cano said that “I am looking forward to this new stage in my career and the responsibility of being at the head of one of the country’s most important Equity management teams. We will maintain the management style that has produced such great results for our funds and are a recognition of the work of our exceptional team.”

Aviva Gestión applies an investment philosophy based on tracking down value or “value investing”, which advocates a fundamental, strict and exhaustive assessment of potential companies before investing in them.

As a reward for these efforts, in 2011 Aviva Gestión received three of the most prestigious acknowledgements in the financial sector. Aviva Espabolsa was selected by Lipper as the “Best Fund, Equity Spain” for their over “3 years” and over “5 years”, products. The same product was also awarded the “Best Equity Fund, Spain” by the analysts at Morningstar. In adjudicating this award, the panel not only looked at the returns obtained over the past year, but also those achieved over the last three and five year periods. In addition, readers of the weekly financial paper, Inversión y Finanzas, awarded Aviva Gestión the prize for best management group, 2011.
