Aviva, a major European life insurance and pensions group, has published its first brief on corporate social responsibility which sets out the strategy and guidelines of Good Governance, social commitment and transparency which the company has been developing throughout 2010 in Spain.

Aviva, a major European life insurance and pensions group, has published its first brief on corporate social responsibility (CSR) which sets out the strategy and guidelines of Good Governance, social commitment and transparency which the company has been developing throughout 2010 in Spain.
One of the highlighted initiatives is the creation of a corporate social responsibility committee, chaired by the managing director. This body is responsible for driving ahead initiatives towards society, clients, employees, suppliers, partners and brokers of Aviva, as well as guiding the company’s activity in terms of principles of ethics, vigilance of human rights and care for the environment.
Through the area dedicated to CSR which has been provided on the website, visible from the home page, www.aviva.es, Aviva claims to bring to its public not only the actions carried out with a view to fulfilling the company’s objectives and mission, but the has programmes that have been launched. This tool is thus added to the accessibility policy that Aviva has applied to its public websites whereby it has been granted a Double-A qualification, in accordance with the quantity standards and norms established by W3C.
For Ana Sanz, director of CSR of Aviva in Spain: “With the publication of this document, Aviva is living out a philosophy that has remained constant throughout its history, to consider CSR as a fundamental strategic pillar, so that all its business decisions can be applied within a representative setting and also so that we can bring them transparently to all our groups of interest.”
The document is available online on the group’s website, www.aviva.es within the new section dedicated to CSR, (www.aviva.es/es/corporativa/rsc/). The brief specifies the Guidelines of Good Practice which the company implements, the values and codes of conduct of the organisation, CSR indicators which are taken as reference, the communication channels that Aviva keeps open with all of its publics, and the areas of actuation of the CSR Committee.
Strategic pillars of the CSR programme
The lines of action developed in 2010, and the responsibility plan for 2011, are both based on the following fields of application:
- To ensure motivation and the involvement of its payroll in the continuous improvement of the company.
- To promote close customer relations and guarantee their satisfaction.
- To promote the undertaking of social responsibility to suppliers and sub-contracted companies, working with socially responsible organisations and setting up yardsticks with which to measure the commitment of the suppliers.
- To communicate transparently to its groups of interest, promoting transparency towards clients and investors.
- To undertake commitments with the community through the execution of different initiatives for development, such as granting micro-credits to communities of Ecuador and the Cameroon through the Orbayu Foundation, in addition to our collaboration agreement as Constructors of the Future with Children’s Villages, among others
- And to minimise the environmental impact, launching campaigns to promote recycling among employees and reduce its carbon footprint.
