Aviva is one of only 50 companies in the Global Compact LEAD, a new platform announced in Davos at the World Economic Forum. Global Compact LEAD is a group of companies committed to take sustainability leadership to the next level.
Global Compact LEAD is challenging all companies in the platform to implement the Blueprint for Corporate Sustainability Leadership PDF (1.96MB), which was developed in close consultation with a large number of corporate participants and stakeholders and widely endorsed by business, governments, and civil society at the Leaders Summit in New York in June 2010.
The platform is designed to challenge highly engaged companies in the UN Global Compact to reach further, to experiment, to innovate, and to share learnings – both successes and failures. Companies in LEAD are committed to leading new efforts to raise sustainability performance.
Andrew Moss, group chief executive at Aviva said, “Business more generally needs a longer-term focus from the board level downwards; sustainability needs to become part of the corporate DNA. The benefits for the economy and society more broadly are clear and quantifiable. As an insurer, we’re very alive to this – ours is a long-term business. The decisions we make today have an impact on our customers’ financial well-being decades into the future.”
