Aviva France, a major player in life insurance and long-term savings, asset management and non-life insurance, announces the appointment of Patrick Butteau as head of sales for brokerage and life insurance agents at Aviva France. He took up this role on 1 July 2009.
Patrick Butteau is 49 years old and has a first degree in Public Enterprise Administration, a masters degree in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) from Paris XII University and a diploma from LIMRA. After an initial work placement at Banque de France, he began his career in 1984, as a business auditor for La Via Nouvelle, part of the Drouot Group (which subsequently became Axa). He set up a team of agents specialising in life insurance for the Ile-de-France region; under his direction, that team became one of the leading inspectorates in France.
In 1992, he was placed in charge of the management teams of Alpha Assurance, the company that grouped together all of Axa’s life networks. For five years, Patrick Butteau was responsible for the back offices, then the Technical and Marketing teams. In 1997, when Axa merged with UAP, he was given the job of restructuring UAP’s management back offices and put his managerial skills to work coaching the management teams that had merged with the Axa teams.
In 2003, Patrick Butteau was appointed director of life customer services at Axa. Over the past two years, his growth at Axa took him to the position of head of sales and distribution for all the networks in the Ile-de-France region.
At the same time, from 1992 to 2002, Patrick Butteau taught motivation techniques to university students. He has written several works, including the first book in French on management and NLP. He also coaches a number of high-level athletes. He believes that the management process is identical in sport and business: guiding individuals towards achieving 100% of their potential and helping them grow.
Jean-Pierre Menanteau, CEO of Aviva France, says: “I’m delighted that Patrick is bringing his 25 years of experience in the insurance sector to Nicolas Schimel’s teams at Aviva. His passion for management and the service delivered to customers will help us take the profitable growth of Aviva further with our distribution partners.”
