As part of Norwich Union's continued commitment to the communities that it operates in, they have launched "Learn and Thrive", a new learning programme in partnership with City of York Council’s Library and Adult and Community Education Services.

Learn and Thrive has been developed with the aim of improving the financial awareness of people across York. A series of community workshops are being held from the end of May which will cover a range of subjects from how to set up a budget, through understanding statements and bills, to choosing the most suitable savings options.

The workshops, which are being run by volunteers from the council and Aviva, are all free of charge and will be run in venues across the city including Explore Acomb Library Learning Centre, York Library, Tang Hall Library, Clifton library, Explore New Earswick Library Learning Centre and Oaken Grove.

The partnership is also at the heart of the scheme to transform York Library into an Explore library learning centre, working with architects and conservation officers to draw up an exciting new layout, with plans for Listed Building Consent due to be submitted this month.

Library staff have visited ward committees across York over the last two months to talk to the public about the plans and have received a very positive response. The plans include a café, learning rooms, a new children’s library as well as thousands more books in the new centre which will open towards the end of 2009.
