Hibernian Health, has taken the national marketplace Corporate Social Responsibility Award for its "Action For Health" education programme. The Award was presented for Hibernian Health's work to raise levels of health education and awareness among people of all ages in all areas across Ireland. The Hibernian Health "Action for Health" programme distributed health information packs to 600,000 people, raised €1,000,000 for Breast Cancer Research as well as delivering 30,000 free online health checks and 5,000 free health screens.

Having identified a clear need for more innovative and consumer friendly health education and information, the Hibernian Health team brought this information to people of all ages nationwide, in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Barnardo's and the Marie Keating Foundation.

Speaking about the programme, Deirdre Ashe of Hibernian Health said: "The Hibernian Health ‘Action for health' programme saw people all over Ireland get fit, get active, get informed and ultimately take greater responsibility for their health and well-being. The strong partnerships we developed with Barnardo's, the Marie Keating Foundation and the Royal College of Surgeons were invaluable to helping us achieve our goals in a very pragmatic way getting health information, health screens and consultations to those who needed them most."

Hibernian Health strongly believes in looking out for the health needs of its members and this programme helped us to achieve this. "Our vision of looking out for our customers is not just about providing cover when they need medical treatment. We also look out for you by helping you avoid medical treatment in the first place. We strongly believe in encouraging healthy behaviour and proactive health management. It's widely accepted that prevention is better than cure and early detection saves lives. The ultimate aim of our vision is to change the mindset that exists in Ireland. Take heart disease for example: Ireland is top of the table for pre-mature mortality from diseases of the vascular system of the EU 15. However only 46% of Irish people have their blood pressure measured each year, the EU average is 59%. Despite this fact, research conducted by Red C for Hibernian Health shows that only one in four people with private health insurance have ever had a full health screen, with people under the age of 55 years of age even less likely to have had a screen for illness or disease. We are committed to changing stats like these," commented Deirdre Ashe, marketing director at Hibernian Health.

This October Hibernian Health launches their second National Health Screening month. Throughout October, let Hibernian Health look out for you - just log onto www.hibernian/health to take a free online health assessment and to get better informed about the benefits of health screening.
