UK: Norwich Union's CSR programme scoops awards

Norwich Union’s Corporate Social Responsibility and volunteering programme has won a number of awards.

Norwich Union's Corporate Social Responsibility and volunteering programme has won a number of awards.

It received national recognition in the Employee Benefit Awards and regional recognition in the Business in the Community awards for the Yorkshire and Humber and East of England regions.

Winner - most effective use of reward as part of a corporate social responsibility strategy
This recognised Norwich Union's encouragement of fundraising during working hours, included the matching of funds raised, 21 paid hours of voluntary leave, creating new personal development opportunities and how Norwich Union has made it easier to donate through the "Pennies from Heaven" and payroll-giving opportunities.

Business in the Community Awards
The awards recognise companies who have worked hard to improve society by helping charities and other good causes.

East of England Awards, winner - Business Volunteering Awards
This recognised the communEcate mentoring scheme, in which employees offer continued support for pupils studying business A levels and GCSEs at three Norfolk schools. The scheme has seen employees volunteer 2,300 working hours.

Yorkshire and Humber Awards, highly commended - Community Impact Award
This was in recognition of SNAPPY (Special Needs And Play Provision in York), a partnership between Norwich Union and University of York offering play sessions, evening clubs and summer holidays for 250 young people with special needs.
