India: ‘Aviva’s Walk for Concern’ gets an overwhelming response in Pune

Over 5,000 participants from all walks of life – young and old, students, housewives, retired personnels and professionals, streamed onto the streets of Pune to show their support for "Aviva’s Walk for Concern", a walkathon sponsored by Aviva and conceptualized by Concern India Foundation.

Over 5,000 participants from all walks of life – young and old, students, housewives, retired personnels and professionals, streamed onto the streets of Pune to show their support for "Aviva’s Walk for Concern", a walkathon sponsored by Aviva and conceptualized by Concern India Foundation.

The 5km long walkathon was flagged off together by Bert Paterson, managing director, Aviva Life Insurance and Kavita Shah, CEO, Concern India Foundation from NCC Grounds, at 7.30am, today.

Gaurav Natekar, Abhjit Kunte, pillars of Pune’s society walked for this noble cause, and appreciated this initiative of Aviva and Concern India Foundation which aimed at creating awareness on education for underprivileged children. The 5km walk moved from NCC grounds and then finally culminated at the NCC grounds where all participants were given refreshments.

On this occasion, Bert Paterson, managing director, Aviva Life Insurance said: ”It is very encouraging to see so many people join the walkathon for a social cause. As a part of our corporate social responsibility program, Aviva takes up social and environmental causes to secure the future of the local communities. Our association with Concern India Foundation is another step towards our goal of helping secure the future of children, who are the future of our country.”

Kavita Shah, CEO, Concern India Foundation, said: “I would like to thank the people of Pune for supporting our cause so that we can continue to help those in need and reach our goal of creating a society of self reliant people living in dignity”.

This is the second successful walkathon organized by Aviva and CIF. The first walkathon was held in Pune in March 2005 and it fulfilled its objective of creating awareness and raising funds for the less privileged children.
