Almost everyone has been affected by breast cancer. Whether it's their mother, daughter, sister, cousin, grandmother, aunt, friend - nearly everyone knows someone whose life has been changed forever by this disease. One-in-nine Canadian women will be affected by it.
That's why, in seven cities across Canada this summer, thousands of people are preparing to devote a weekend of their life to make what is a private struggle for many into a public crusade as they join in "The Weekend to End Breast Cancer(TM)."
Aviva Canada Inc, is proud to be sponsoring "The Weekend to End Breast Cancer," by hosting a "Pit Stop" in each city - a designated place along the 60 kilometre course where the walkers can rest briefly during their trek.
"Events like these contribute to increasing the public awareness – and ultimately finding a cure for a disease which has affected so many lives," says Igal Mayer, president and CEO, Aviva Canada Inc. "We are in the business of providing peace of mind to our customers and we believe there will be no greater peace of mind than when a cure for breast cancer is found.
"At Aviva Canada we are dedicated to taking care of what's important to our customers and we are proud to sponsor these events. They also offer Aviva Canada employees and our broker partners an opportunity to get involved personally by volunteering their time and support."
Similar events are also being held in Britain, where Aviva plc, Aviva Canada's parent company, is the title sponsor of events in London and Birmingham, called "The Aviva Weekend to Breakthrough Breast Cancer."
