Singapore: Aviva Bintan Triathlon 2006 - witness the excitement, be inspired

The challenging endurance event is back once again on the shores of the picturesque Bintan Lagoon Resort on 27 and 28 May.

The challenging endurance event is back once again on the shores of the picturesque Bintan Lagoon Resort on 27 and 28 May. And with first-time title sponsor, Aviva Asia, putting its weight behind the event, the Aviva Bintan Triathlon 2006 looks set to be bigger and better than before.

Commented Charles Anderson, regional managing director of Aviva Asia: “The Bintan Triathlon holds a very special spot in my heart. It was the first ever triathlon for me and I struggled to complete it. However, the organisation of the race, the quality of the course and the participants left a huge impression on me.

“Aviva Asia is indeed very proud to be the title sponsor of the Aviva Bintan Triathlon 2006. I have no doubt that with last year’s experience, the race organisers will put up an equally good, if not better show for the participants and spectators this May.”

In 2005, the Bintan Triathlon attracted more than 400 participants. This year, we expect approximately 900 triathletes, with more than half of the race entries already being snapped up. For an event that’s only in its second year, the Aviva Bintan Triathlon is spreading its fame overseas, with more than 120 international athletes taking to the field this year.

Many of them like former world number four triathlete Courtney Atkinson are here to experience what looks like a tough terrain. Joining the elite fray will be 27-year-old Bryce Quirk from Melbourne, Australia. The Australian 2005 champion is making his debut in this race and spectators can expect an exciting display of top level triathlon competition by these two top professionals.

“We had an excellent response last year and this year, with the support of Aviva Asia putting up an attractive prize purse, we’re attracting some top triathletes who are really keen to come down and experience the Bintan terrain for themselves.

“That said, we believe that triathlon is a sport that everyone can pick up, with the right amount of determination and mental strength, so we’re hoping for more people to step up and see the transformation in themselves,” said Bob Bowness, founder of Tribob – the race organizer of the Aviva Bintan Triathlon 2006.

Aptly termed as one of the best destination races in Asia, amateur triathletes who want to take up the challenge and conquer the Bintan course are more than welcome to make their way down and experience the terrain for themselves.

For the non-racers, what sets the Aviva Bintan Triathlon apart from the other races is the fantastic beach party-like atmosphere that one will experience. It is the perfect weekend getaway for friends and families to come down and be inspired by close to a thousand participants who are challenging themselves and pushing their physical limits to greater heights.

It will truly be a weekend to remember!
