From 1 January 2006, there will be two newcomers to Commercial Union Poland group management boards. Stephen Marini has been appointed a deputy chief executive of Commercial Union Poland Life Insurance Company, while John Lapsley has become a deputy chief executive of Commercial Union Poland distribution and administration company, with responsibility for customer services and IT.
Zbigniew Andrzejewski, chief executive of CU Poland group, said: "These nominations are intended to strengthen the senior management team of CU Poland group, which also includes CU Lithuania. They do not mean that anyone is leaving the board, neither signify any changes in company strategy."
Stephen Marini was formerly (since 2003) financial director at Aviva Italia, part of Aviva group, which is also a parent institution of CU Poland group. He is a graduate of London’s City University (mathematics and statistics) and a licensed actuary. He has more than twenty years’ experience of work for life insurance companies, in the UK, Spain, Argentina, Poland, and Lithuania. He was involved in the preliminary work on the investment in Poland made by Norwich Union, one of legacy companies of Aviva, and was subsequently financial director of Norwich Union Life Insurance Company in Warsaw. Following his move to Commercial Union Poland, he worked on the project to set up a company in Lithuania. From 2001-2003 he was chief executive of CU Lithuania Life Insurance Company.
John Lapsley has been working at CU Polska since August 2004 as IT head. Now, as a deputy chief executive, he will be responsible for customer services and IT in Poland and Lithuania. Previously, from 1998-2004, he worked as IT director for the UK insurance company Norwich Union International, and then, following the merger and the creation of the Aviva group, at Aviva Life International in London. He was involved in setting up the Norwich Union pension fund in Poland and this company’s financial centre in Dublin. He played a part in the development of IT systems used by the Aviva group in Australia, Spain, Turkey, India, Ireland and countries in Central and Eastern Europe. In 1970 he graduated as an aeronautical engineer from the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell, UK, after which he served in the British air force (RAF) as an engineering officer.
