Norwich Union and children’s charity NCH celebrated success at the Community Service Volunteers (CSV) Make A Difference Day Awards after winning the best employee team volunteering event.
A team of 50 green-fingered volunteers from Norwich Union’s Life Telebusiness area transformed a garden using ideas put forward by the young carers at the NCH Willows project in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.
The Norwich Union volunteers created a quiet area with flower beds and a sea scene mural where the children and young people can relax. They also designed and built a barbecue, a wooden play area, painted games on tarmac, built a sports pitch surrounded by murals, attached colourful paintings to the project’s buildings, put stepping-stones on the lawn and built a herb garden.
David Czerwinski, head of community at Norwich Union, said: "It’s great to have been chosen from so many wonderful volunteering projects as winners of this award. The employee volunteering programme as part of our ‘Young Lives, Our Future’ partnership with NCH is all about giving employees the opportunity to make a difference in their local community, which fits well with the aims of CSV’s Make a Difference Day."
Sarah Lock, head of company fundraising at NCH, said: "We are delighted; this really goes to show the benefit our partnership with Norwich Union is having to the vital work that NCH does with children and young people."
Norwich Union and NCH are in partnership to provide socially-excluded young people with the help they need to reach their potential. Norwich Union is investing Ł1.4 million into the partnership over a five-year period. It forms part of a larger Norwich Union sponsorship programme aimed at investing in the future of our children.
