Australia: Green partnership launched

The Monash Environment Institute and Aviva Australia today announced a joint initiative to strengthen Aviva’s environmental initiatives.

The Monash Environment Institute and Aviva Australia today announced a joint initiative to strengthen Aviva’s environmental initiatives.

Will Symons from the Monash Environment Institute said the initiative will be run under the umbrella of the institute’s ‘Green Steps’ program, a training and consultancy service provided in partnership with the Australian Greenhouse Office.

"Green Steps is an innovative program which links Monash students to environmental projects in the community, business and government sectors," Mr Symons said.

"It takes 10 undergraduate and postgraduate students through a course in environmental change management, and places them in a company where they are required to assist, initiate and facilitate improved environmental practice," he said.

Rob Gill, project manager for Aviva’s Group Environment Program, said he was looking forward to working with the student on paid placement, in this case Environmental Studies Graduate Diploma student Matt Wicking.

"Matt will be helping us to strengthen our established Green Office Program, particularly the mechanisms used to collect and analyse environmental data," Mr Gill said.

"Verification of this data by the Monash Environmental Institute will help to ensure our annual environmental Corporate Social Responsibility report is an accurate reflection of the environmental and social performance of Aviva Australia," he said.
