Specialist ambulances travel from place to place and give residents the opportunity to undergo tests, including a test for breast cancer (mammography), glaucoma and osteoporosis. Such tests were recently conducted in the Lublin region in eastern Poland.

This programme is being implemented by a private health-care centre. Tests are carried out by highly-qualified medical staff using the most up-to-date equipment. Ambulance staff conduct the tests every day except Sundays and holidays, between 8am and 1pm and 2-8pm.

The ambulances visit about 15 communities a month with staff capable of examining 70-80 people a day in each of the above- mentioned tests. The programme organiser concludes agreements with the local authorities about the test procedures. From these agreements it is decided whether the inhabitants pay a symbolic fee for the tests or whether they are free of charge.

People taking part in the tests have a chance to acquaint themselves with CU Poland Group's offer, including the additional “Your Health” hospital cash benefit product introduced in April 2003.

"By supporting this action we wish to provide specialist preventative tests for people living in places where access to specialists and modern equipment is difficult. This is our contribution to promoting health awareness and the need for systematic prevention programmes.

"The initiative is consistent with our mission as an insurance institution that is entering the health insurance market," said Gra¿yna Goslings, corporate communications director of the CU Poland Group.

For over a decade, the CU Poland Group has been taking part in various community initiatives in Poland. CU has been supporting events promoting health and healthy lifestyles, amateur sport fixtures, particularly those involving the whole family, and selected professional sports and cultural events.

In 2001 the CU Group supported the Third Glaucoma Prevention Society's programme entitled "Poland, Don't Go Blind!” At that time CU funded a special information line for people interested in this prevention programme and it contributed to the creation of the web site http://www.jaskra.org , with a list of medical outpatient clinics where preventative tests are conducted free of charge.
