Mother’s Day Crocus Walks are supported by Norwich Union - Sunday 10 March 2002 -
Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Norwich Union are joining forces to raise funds for breast cancer research and they need your help.
By taking part in a sponsored walk in your area on Mothers’ Day, you can take an active role in helping to fund vital research into a disease which claims the lives of over 1,000 women a month in the UK. Adding an additional incentive, Norwich Union, the UK’s largest insurer, will match pound for pound all the money raised by supporters all over the country, up to the value of Ł100,000.
David Czerwinski, of Norwich Union, comments on the company’s decision to support Breakthrough: "Breast cancer affects the lives of our customers, their families and our own staff every year. So we are especially proud to support Breakthrough’s invaluable work to eradicate this disease. The Crocus Walks, now in their tenth year, are a simple and fun way of helping Breakthrough beat breast cancer. This year, we’ll make sure that every step will be worth twice as much to Breakthrough."
The 2002 campaign will also be supported by Country Living magazine, which will be contributing prizes to the most successful fundraisers.

Notes to editors:
- Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research and awareness. In 1999, we established the UK’s first dedicated breast cancer research centre, in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research.
- Breakthrough Breast Cancer needs to raise Ł5 million every year to fund its programme of research.
- Norwich Union will be working in partnership with three charities over the next three years: Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Cruse Bereavement Care and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. Each charity will receive a donation of Ł100,000 each year for three years. Norwich Union also supports a charity, chosen by staff, where the company matches staff fundraising pound for pound. The company also supports a range and other initiatives to support staff who are actively involved in their local community.
