Our people

Diversity and inclusion

We’re committed to making sure everyone at Aviva can be themselves. Only then can everyone do their best work.

Inclusion at Aviva

We have around 31,000 people working in our offices from Norwich to Singapore. Every single one of us brings unique experience, attitudes and ambitions.

This diversity is fundamental to Aviva. It's important to us that everyone is included. We’re committed to making sure everyone can be themselves.

What are we doing about it?

Inclusion is a long-term commitment. Change takes time, but we want to move faster to create a workplace, and a society, that works for everyone.

We’re looking at all aspects of our business to make sure inclusion informs everything we do. We want to make it an integral part of how we treat our customers, our partners, and our people.

We know we need to take action and have committed to:

  • Increase the number of women in leadership roles* to 40% by 2021
    • Aviva have developed an in-house specialist Women in Leadership Development Programme
  • Attract, promote and retain more ethnic minority employees
    • We have developed a bespoke Ethnic Minority Leadership Programme in partnership with the Diversity Practice
  • Work with external partners to develop and challenge our specialist knowledge

Aviva Communities

Aviva Communities, our global employee groups, are one of the ways we’re working to become more inclusive. They give our people the chance to support each other and take action to improve the wider organisation for everyone.

Each community is sponsored by two members of the Aviva Leadership team, and every member of the leadership team is accountable for improving inclusion. In addition, the Global Inclusion Council, chaired by our Group Chief Executive Officer, brings together senior leaders from across the organisation to share and monitor progress.

The communities are:

AvivAbility - supporting people with visible and invisible disabilities

Aviva Balance - for gender parity

Aviva Carers - helping carers and parents

Aviva Generations - for workers of all ages

Aviva Origins - celebrating cultural difference, including Race, Etnicity, religious belief and Social Mobility

Aviva Pride - being yourself at work, LGBT

Developing the next generations of female leaders
