On Thursday 2 April Delta Lloyd associated itself even more closely with water sports in the Netherlands over the next four years. At a joint meeting the chairs of the Water Sports Association (WSV), the Netherlands Optimist Club, the North Sea Regatta, the Delta Lloyd Regatta and the yachtsman Pieter Jan Postma presented their joint plans. Delta Lloyd will definitely be the sponsor of several national water sports activities until 2012.
Delta Lloyd remains the chief sponsor for the WSV and lends its name to the Core Team and the Open Dutch Championship for Olympic Classes. In addition it is associated with new and innovative projects such as topzeilen.tv. The Netherlands Optimist Club will be supported in its ambition to raise the bar for Dutch young people in the Optimist Class, and the North Sea Regatta is from now on taking place at Whitsun under the Delta Lloyd banner. The Delta Lloyd Regatta, which also now forms part of the recently introduced ISAF World Cup Series, has for years been the focal point of the Olympic yachting world in the last week of May, and therefore sits very comfortably with Delta Lloyd's 2012-facing ambitions. Pieter Jan Postma will be sponsored to realise his personal ambition to win the Finn Class in the Olympic Games.
According to Paul Medendorp, member of the Delta Lloyd Group board of directors: "As a major Dutch water sports insurer, we want to be a real partner for Dutch water sports. By extending our sponsorship arrangements and by committing ourselves for four years we want to show that we are offering long-term security not only to our customers but also to the sport of sailing."
For Delta Lloyd the extension of its partnering and sponsorship arrangements amounts to the firming up of its support for the development of the Netherlands into a real front runner in terms of water sports. Both the young people in the Optimist Class and the Olympic athletes who are preparing for London 2012 can count on the support of Delta Lloyd.
In addition to the new arrangements, Delta Lloyd is the chief sponsor of the Delta Lloyd 24-Hour Yacht Race, the Delta Lloyd Businessmen's Regatta and the Delta Lloyd Solar Boat Team, partner of the Hiswa-on-Water and competitor in the Volvo Ocean Race with Team Delta Lloyd.
