With immediate effect Delta Lloyd Insurance will become the main sponsor of the Conny van Rietschoten Trophy. Delta Lloyd is the biggest water sports insurer in the Netherlands and is a genuine partner of Dutch water sports. In view of Delta Lloyd's close links with Topzeil boats, it is a logical choice to associate itself with the most important sailing prize in the Netherlands.
The prestigious Conny van Rietschoten Trophy has been awarded for the past 27 years to a Dutch yachtsman or woman who has excelled through an outstanding performance in competition, or to an individual who has shown him or herself to be worthy in specific ways in the sport of sailing.
The prize is named after one of the greatest yachtsman that our country has produced. In 1977/1978 and 1981/1982 Conny van Rietschoten won what was at that time the most arduous yacht race in the world, the Whitbread Round the World Race. The race is now being staged again under the name of the current sponsor, the Volvo Ocean Race. Delta Lloyd takes part in this with its own boat.
The directors of the Zeiltrophy Foundation, the organisers of the award presentation, have great regard for this collaboration; Delta Lloyd Insurance and the Zeiltrophy Foundation are combining their efforts in the interest and for the promotion of the sport of sailing.
