Jim Webber, previously group actuary and economic capital director at Aviva, will take on the role of chief risk officer immediately. Reporting to Philip Scott, Aviva group finance director, Jim's portfolio will include compliance, group business protection, economic capital and enterprise risk management. Jim will retain the economic capital elements of his current role and this internal appointment will ensure strong links between risk management and economic capital.
Philip Scott commented: "A globally consistent, effective and fully embedded approach to risk is essential if we are to continue to grow and deliver the ‘One Aviva, twice the value' vision. As our chief risk officer, Jim will drive Aviva's risk management strategy and Jim and I are committed to building the momentum towards a world class risk function which adds real value to the business."
With 30 years experience in the insurance industry Jim brings substantial experience of managing market risk, credit risk and insurance risk. He has been with the company for 16 years and joined Norwich Union as a financial actuary in 1991. Prior to joining Aviva Jim was an equity partner with Tillinghast - Towers Perrin.
The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
