The Aviva solar car finished an impressive third place in its class (Adventure Class) and sixth overall at the World Solar Challenge it was announced today.
The Aviva solar car finished an impressive third place in its class (Adventure Class) and sixth overall at the World Solar Challenge it was announced today.
After a remarkable run - a journey of 3,000 kms from Darwin to Adelaide - the Avivasolarcar crossed the finishing line at 2.14pm on Friday 26 October, the only Australian car to finish in the top three of the Adventure class.
Lead driver of the team, Andrew Marriott drove the Aviva solar car into Adelaide, where the team was welcomed at Victoria Square by crowds of spectators.
The race began on 21 October with more than 40 entrants from around the world taking up the challenge of racing across Australia powered only by the rays of the sun.
Aviva's sponsorship of the Aviva solar car has been rewarding, the sponsorship playing an important part in the company's environment program. Aviva is the first global insurer to carbon neutralise its operations worldwide.
