Sri Lanka: Eagle signs third bancassurance agreement

Eagle Insurance, Aviva's Sri Lankan insurance subsidiary, announced the launch of a third major bancassurance partnership today.

Eagle Insurance, Aviva's Sri Lankan insurance subsidiary, announced the launch of a third major bancassurance partnership today. An agreement has been signed with Sampath Bank, the seventh largest retail bank in Sri Lanka with a nationwide network of over 100 branches. This will give Eagle the opportunity to promote life and general insurance solutions to a customer base of 900,000 individuals and a corporate customer base consisting of 500 large companies.

Sampath Bank has a long history of technological innovation. It revolutionized the banking sector in Sri Lanka when it introduced ATMs and networked branch systems over two decades ago.

"The Bank enjoys a superior position in the Sri Lankan market" states Deepal Sooriyaarachchi, Eagle's managing director, "and they share similar core values to those that drive us here at Eagle. It will be a pleasure to work with them."

Since becoming a member of the Aviva group Eagle has pioneered bancassurance in Sri Lanka, emerging as a clear leader in this field.
