Aviva appoints two new non-executive directors

Aviva plc ("Aviva") has appointed two new independent non-executive directors.

Russell Walls FCCA (60) is an independent non-executive director of Signet Group plc and the senior independent non-executive director of Stagecoach Group plc. Before his retirement in 2002 he was group finance director of BAA plc and prior to that had been group finance director of Wellcome plc and Coats Viyella plc. He is a former senior independent non-executive director of Hilton Group plc and a former independent non-executive director of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.

Richard Goeltz (61) is American and is currently an independent non-executive director of the Warnaco Group Inc, Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) and New Germany Fund. During his career he has served as chief financial officer of NatWest Group plc, American Express Company and The Seagram Company Ltd.

The appointments will take effect from 3 May 2004.

Pehr Gyllenhammar, Aviva’s chairman, said: "I am delighted that Russell and Richard have agreed to join the Aviva board. Both directors bring with them strong financial backgrounds and a wealth of international business experience."
