Norwich Union remains committed to Scotland and is continuing to expand its Pitheavlis operation. This is the message the company's managing director, Patrick Snowball gave to Perth MP and MSP Roseanna Cunningham when the pair met at Norwich Union's recently created customer service centre yesterday (5 March).

It was the first time that the two had met, and during their hour-long meeting, they discussed the role of Norwich Union Insurance in Perth, and in particular the future of the Pitheavlis operation.

Norwich Union currently employs around 800 staff in Pitheavlis and this will rise to 1000 by the end of this year. The main business sections based in the purpose-built offices are corporate partnerships, retail service, intermediary support, IT and commercial trading units. Some CGNU group functions are also based in Pitheavlis.

The customer service centre, which sells motor insurance over the phone, was opened in October last year and already employs around 150 staff. By the end of this year that figure will have doubled.

Also attending the meeting was Annabelle Ewing, the SNP's prospective parliamentary candidate for Perth in the forthcoming general election.
