Aviva comments on news that the Ministry of Justice is considering delaying whiplash reform

Commenting on the news that the MoJ is considering delaying previously announced Government whiplash reforms, Rob Townend, UK Claims Director at Aviva, said.

“The news of a delay to planned Government whiplash reforms is a blow to families and honest motorists who have already been hit with an IPT increase, rising petrol prices, and now face paying for lawyer profits and criminal acts by fraudsters.

“The lack of action on reforms is basically a charter for more nuisance calls; last year claims management companies bombarded consumers with more than 720m calls, and we firmly expect this number to grow.

“More worryingly, the 'do nothing' option is an invitation to crash for cash gangs to 'carry on frauding'.

“The reforms are ready to go. We would urge Government to push ahead with the reforms, which will cut costs for motorists by £50 a year, stop fraudsters in their tracks, and hang up on nuisance calls.”
